TransWorks’ new Opti-Mation (OM) technology allows our customers to use an advanced, state-of-the-art technology to manage and leverage relationships in their supply chain, creating significant savings to drive down supply chain costs. Many of TransWorks’ customers are very large organizations that ship and receive thousands of truckloads of freight on a weekly basis. One large customer has reported a 5% savings on their freight spend, thanks to OM.
OM is unique in that it combines and leverages two different types of technologies. Optimization models are not new, but they are powerful tools for businesses today. Automating business processes is also powerful, but is not new either. However, combining these technologies together and leveraging the best features of each respective technology is new.
Prior to OM, customers who had an optimization model, would run the model, review the results, and determine which recommendations they liked and which they wanted to ignore. This manual process was extremely burdensome and time consuming.
With OM, the model is fully integrated into a customer’s business, and it honors all of their defined business rules (which is how customers are able to build valuable and lasting relationships with supply chain service providers). OM is dynamic, therefore a customer can adjust the rules as needed and OM will honor those new or changed rules immediately.
OM originally was designed to be an optimizer and to help solve specific problems. However, once developed and implemented, our early adapters fully integrated and automated the solution into their business process to assist in managing the relationships in the supply chain.
OM's novel approach has created a solution to a huge transportation industry issue. Truckload capacity is diminishing for a variety of reasons, including regulations, fuel costs, unfavorable demographics and truckers retiring or moving to other careers. This trend is topical and the challenge is growing. Companies that procure these types of supply chain services have difficultly managing costs, service quality, and capacity related to getting product moved through the supply chain to customers.
OM is the integration of dynamic business logic and rules, and it contains the power of optimization technology that brings a solution to help companies manage complex and ever-changing supply chain relationships.
